Black sesame seeds have a more full-bodied taste than white sesame seeds and are typically found in Japanese cuisine.   Sesame seeds add a nutty taste to many Asian, South American and African dishes and they are also the main ingredient in tahini (sesame seed paste) and the Middle Eastern sweet dish Halvah.  They can also be dry-roasted lightly before combining them with salt to use as the Japanse table condiment goma-shio (‘sesame salt’), which is sprinkled over rice.
